Ann Arbor Marriott Hindu Indian Wedding

Updated: Mar 3, 2020

It was such a joy basking in the love of Suman and Alok on their beautiful Michigan wedding day at the Ann Arbor Marriott. Their outdoor Ann Arbor Hindu Indian wedding ceremony was held at the Panda Residence, and the wedding reception celebration took place at Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest. Our 97 Films team was honored to capture their Ann Arbor wedding film!

I asked the beautiful bride about the details of their special day! Enjoy a snippet of the Ann Arbor wedding story of Suman + Alok, through the couples’ lens with this Q&A:

How did you two meet? We first met as teenagers in Nashville, TN. We dated for a short time, but life took us in different directions. By chance, we met again in 2013 at the Chicago OSA convention. We were inseparable that weekend and started dating soon after.

Suman worked in Michigan and Alok attended school in Tennessee. We traveled to see each other as often as possible!

How did Alok propose?

In December 2016, Alok took Suman to the pedestrian bridge, to the spot where he had taken her on their first date. Looking out over the river and the evening Nashville skyline, Alok told Suman about the fireworks he felt inside whenever he was with her, and how her eyes sparkled just like those fireworks. Then, he got down on one knee to ask her to marry him!

Who’s not a sucker for a sweet love story? Suman + Alok’s takes the cake! But enjoy this Michigan Hindu wedding film at The Henry, too!

Tell us more about your Ann Arbor Hindu Indian wedding! We had a traditional Hindu Indian wedding ceremony with modern elements. The ceremony was outdoors and had bright colors to contrast the surrounding greenery: red, gold, orange, magenta and purple.

What is your culture? Indian (specifically Oriya)

What is the religion of your wedding? Hindu

Describe your wedding day. Our wedding day was perfect! The weather was sunny with a breeze, which made everything feel bright. From the beginning of the baraat, there was a feeling of happiness and celebration in the air. We both felt a sense of calm and peace throughout the day, knowing we would finally be together forever after this.

Our day started off, like most traditional Indian weddings, with the baraat. Alok came in on a horse, the first groom since his great-grandfather to do so! After the baraat, the ceremony began. Suman entered on a doli carried by her cousins. We had a traditional ceremony, and after lunch departed in a limo with our bridal party. In the evening, we had a wonderful reception, and danced late into the night!
