I've worked with Meagan from Mitten Weddings and Events in Downtown Detroit all the way to Mackinac Island! She is a wedding and event planning pro at Mackinac Island. Meagan really cares about the details and makes sure I'm on the same page as her and her couples capturing the important moments. Like cutting the wedding cake with a sword or taking a horse drawn carriage to the beach in Mackinaw Island. I love working with Meagan. She makes our day so much easier by making sure we know when things are happening and the best times to capture the details of the ceremony and reception.
I'll never forget the first time I met Meagan. We were going out for dinner and drinks at a BBQ place in Lake Orion. Of course I went to the wrong one haha. Luckily, Meagan knew exactly where I was and came to my rescue ;). What I learned from Meagan at that dinner/drinks night was that she knows weddings. She has done hundreds of weddings...not only as a planner for her own company but with other well known hotels and on Mackinac Island.

How did you get started as a wedding planner?
My first job at 14 was in the hospitality industry. By 16, I was coordinating weddings at my local church. I went to college for Recreation, Parks and Leisure with a Minor in Event Management at Central Michigan University (Fire Up Chips!). My studies required a 6-month internship and I worked at The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham where I got my first taste of luxury weddings. From there, I continued working at luxury and historic hotels including The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center and The Westin Southfield. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a wedding planner. After working years in events in hotels, I decided to start my own event planning business.
What is your approach to planning and coordinating weddings?
My approach to wedding planning is to guide couples through professional, thorough, and stress-free planning and having some fun along the way! I believe a wedding should focus on your story and be reflective of your personalities and love for one another. Why let it be anything less? I am very detailed about each wedding, so we don’t miss a beat when the big day comes. I believe in celebrating your unique love story and can’t wait to help you see it come to life!

What is your favorite wedding memory?
I have an all-time favorite moment from every one of my weddings. We are so lucky to get to know our couples so well during the planning process that each favorite memory is unique. I always love when I get a chance to give the couple a wedding reception preview before the guests enter for dinner. It’s so special for them to have a moment to themselves and take in and see their vision executed.
What advice do you have for brides choosing vendors?
Experience is a must! It’s really important that you feel comfortable and get to know your vendors during your consultation and on social media, etc. I also think it's important to consider how many weddings they take in each weekend to ensure your wedding is the main priority.
Why do you love working with 97 Films?
I love working with 97 Films! We have even been able to travel to Mackinac Island together for a wedding. Katie is creative, trustworthy and makes you feel incredibly comfortable. The 97 Films team is flexible and works well with your wedding photographer.
