Island House Hotel Mackinac Island Wedding

Updated: Mar 2, 2020

The only location for a quintessential summer Michigan wedding is on the iconic Mackinac Island at Island House Hotel. Emily + Ryan knew their wedding could be no where else and couldn’t imagine starting their lives together anywhere but at Island House Hotel on Mackinac Island. Their guests were treated to a love-filled weekend celebrating Emily + Ryan. Filming here is always incredibly rewarding, but because it’s busy in the summer, can add some challenging tasks to a cinematographer’s plate!

On the day of the wedding Emily and her bridesmaids got ready at the beautiful Island House Hotel, where they’d return for the reception at the end of the day. The Island House is the island’s oldest family-owned hotel and pairs history with all the modern luxury amenities. The room they dressed in looked out over the water and the marina. Emily wore a gorgeous lace-overlay gown with a delicate sparking band at her waist. The bridesmaids wore long coral gowns—the perfect summer color—and topped off their look with matching flowers.

The wedding was at the 300-year-old St. Anne’s Catholic Church. This stunning church stands out with it’s pristine white paint and towering steeple. The ceremony was very special, and for some amazing shots by Andrejka Photography and lovely film by me (97 Films), all the guests waved American flags on the balcony after the ceremony. It was perfect! That’s when my fun began. The bridal party rode in a horse-drawn carriage to the end of town, and I followed on bike. With my expensive equipment stuffed into a small basket on front, I somehow managed to make it work and get some excellent footage in the process. Even though we held up traffic the craziness was worth it! Ryan dipped Emily in the middle of main street in Mackinac for one of my favorite moments and most memorable shots.

The bridal party joined the guests back at the Island House for the reception. There was a lot of laughing, dancing (thanks to great music by Bee Entertainment DJ’s) and eating overlooking the marina. Emily + Ryan shared special moments together and were so happy to share the day with their family and friends. Emily’s dad brews delicious beer and made beer bottle escort cards and a special Imperial IPA for the occasion. The day was flawless thanks to Mitten Wedding and Events who put together the schedule, flowers, and help set the arrangements for the reception. Congrats Emily + Ryan!
